Westborough Film Series Geared Toward Kids, Teens

The schools and Westborough Youth and Family Services is putting on this film series.

WESTBOROUGH, MA—Designed to spark conversation and put the spotlight on issues faced by children and teens, Westborough Youth and Family Services in collaboration with the Westborough School Department is planning to show three documentaries over the course of the 2017-2018 school year.

These films are shown in the Westborough High School Auditorium at 7 p.m. and films are all free to attend.

Oct. 26, Race to Nowhere is a film by Vicki Abeles that “examines the pressures faced by young people, teachers, and parents in our high-stakes public and private education system and our pressure cooker culture… It is a
call to mobilize families, educators, experts, and policymakers to examine current assumptions on how to best prepare… youth to become health, bright, contributing and leading citizens.”

Jan. 25, 2018, Beyond Measure seeks to answer the questions raised in Race to Nowhere. It showcases schools across the country that has shifted from a test-driven education culture to one that values personal growth over test scores and encourages passion over ranking.

March 22, Screenagers Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw her own daughter’s involvement with her phone and social media and “learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around
negotiating screen time.” Screenagersis the film she created to document her journey to figure out how to manage this as a mother and how we can manage it as a culture.
