Lightning Strike Damages Westborough Home

A lightning strike blew up a tree near a Hundreds Street home as a family slept.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Storms took a toll on one Westborough home early Monday morning — a lightning strike blew out the power and some windows at a home on Hundreds Street. Westborough police said no one in the home was injured but photos show severe damage to the home and property. The strike happened around 3 a.m.

A large tree that sat on the property was blown apart by the strike. Pieces of the tree that once sat in the backyard were scattered all the way to the front of the home. Shattered glass littered the inside of the home as the back windows were blown out.

The homeowner, Lowell Ackerman, told reporters he and his wife and daughter were asleep in the home when the sound of the explosion woke them up. Ackerman told WCVB that at first he thought there was a large truck having issues in front of the home, but saw the downed tree that looked charred.
