Westborough Lions Raise over $4300 at Charity Tennis Tournament

Proceeds Support Camperships at The Barton Center for Diabetes Education

The Westborough Lions Club held its 4th Annual Charity Tennis Tournament on Saturday, June 19th, at Westborough High School. Twenty women and twenty men competed in the Swiss-style tournament, which features no elimination, and individual titles based on the most number of games won in a doubles format. Emily Karlin was the clear winner in the Women's Division with 20 games won. Joyce Zhou and Sandi Wilichowski were both chose runners-up with 19 games each. In the Men's Division, both Vikram Koganti and Mihir Tatavarti won 22 games each, but because Vikram had fewer losses, he was crowned the Men's Division Winner.

Afterwards, players had the option to try their hand at the Great Balls of Fire target contest, where players had one minute or twenty balls, whichever came first, to hit as many balls through the target at the net from the baseline as they could. Jerry Lee Lewis' Great Balls of Fire entertained the competitors and spectators during the contest. Debbi Molinaro was the Women's Division winner, and Hal Whitehouse was the Men's Division winner.

Due to the generosity of all of the players and the tournament's sponsors, including Amazon Robotics which donated $1000, the club netted over $4300. The proceeds will be used to fund camperships at The Barton Center for Diabetes Education in N. Oxford, MA, which runs day and overnight camps for children with Type 1 Diabetes.
