Westborough Small Biz Profile: Hocheiser CPA

"I wanted to provide this level of financial management to private family businesses."

WESTBOROUGH, MA—After a career as a CFO with local area manufacturing firms, Steve Hocheiser created his own firm with a simple mission: "recognizing that private companies are not getting the strategic and tactical advice necessary to be successful, the guiding principle of the firm is to work closely with business owners to develop comprehensive strategies to achieve their financial objectives."

Hocheiser, who is from Holliston, owns and operates Hocheiser CPA, 200 Friberg Parkway, Suite 4006, in Westborough.

"As our business crosses the half way mark of our ninth year we are growing rapidly," said Boyd. "By design, we do not specialize in any particular industry. An important component of our value proposition is adapting best practices for one industry to another. Our mission statement of “Comprehensive Practical Advice” demonstrates our commitment to being the client’s primary financial advisor. We have a network of trusted advisors that we work with to ensure all of our client’s requirements can be met with the quality and professionalism that our firm provides."

Biggest struggle? I share an issue familiar to all business owners. I struggle with the balance of time working on the business and working in the business. One approach to overcoming this has been to hire ahead of the curve so I don’t get drawn into the day to day more than necessary.

What do you see for the future? We provide high level accounting services for family business owners. Our model is to serve as the accounting department for these businesses. By handling all the administrative functions we free the business owner to run their business. By providing “Comprehensive Practical Advice” we help business owners grow their businesses and their profits. We foresee continuing to work with as many businesses as possible, helping them to grow and prosper. Hopefully by helping enough firms we will also help the local economy.

Politics and small business: how does government affect your business? As a CPA firm we are on the front lines between our client’s and the regulatory state. The compliance requirements can be overwhelming to business owners. A business is required to report to multiple federal and state agencies, make timely and accurate payments to these entities, and respond to intermittent notices from the various entities. I have seen many people get caught up in a maze with no exit once a compliance requirement has been breached. Unfortunately, this has become a source of new clients for the firm.
