Westborough Small Biz Profile: Just Breathe

"Women can come make a day of it in this one little plaza."

WESTBOROUGH, MA—Missy Cohen is a functional medicine practitioner with more than 30 years of clinical laboratory experience and owns and operates Just Breathe, an energy healing center. The center has practitioners that offer intuitive card readings, Reiki, full spectrum energy healings, Trager, Shamanic Healing and hypnosis.

Just Breathe, a salt room by NBH, opened in March of 2017, and is located at 45 East Main St., Westborough.

"I decided to pursue a career in functional medicine after working with a health coach who figured out that my very sick child was actually lactose intolerant," said Cohen. "We worked with her to reeducate ourselves on how to feed my child and decided that I wanted to help people find optimal health in the same way."

What made you decide to go into this type of business? And why this location? A salt room can help with so many ailments from anxiety and depression to lung conditions ranging from allergies and asthma to COPD and emphysema to skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Opening a salt room tied in nicely to my functional medicine practice. I was drawn energetically to Westborough and the plaza that I am located in is a good fit for Just Breathe. Most, but not all, of my clients are women and we are in the same plaza as Get in Shape for Women, TK Hair Design and Jenny Boston. Women can come make a day of it in this one little plaza.

What do you like best about it? By far, the people that I have met. Most people that come to Just Breathe appreciate the positive energy that we offer. They come off the street and you can visibly see their shoulders relax and they haven't even seen the salt room yet where the energy is even higher.

What do you see for the future? I love owning a salt room and being able to help people heal. The future of this salt room will be to add a children's room. Anyone can benefit from salt therapy and children and their grown-ups are encouraged to use our salt room but I look forward to opening a place for kids to play while getting salt therapy.

Name another local business you’d send customers to: As someone who never, in a million years, thought that she would be running their own business, Hocheiser CPA has been invaluable to me. Just starting out, it was important to me to keep my own records and, Janet, one of the bookkeepers there, very patiently taught me how to use Quickbooks and keep track of my daily sales. In addition, Steve, the owner, works with many entrepreneurs and one of his joys is helping them succeed through business coaching.

I also would not have survived working with contractors and having such a beautiful and peaceful space without the help of Kate LaCount who is the owner of Rooms with a View. She is an talented interior decorator who takes the time to get to know her clients and their lifestyles before helping them choose what will work for them.
