21% Of Wilmington Residents Have Gotten At Least 1 Vaccine Dose

The state's plan to prioritize the most vulnerable residents is showing in Wilmington, where seniors have received the most vaccinations.

WILMINGTON, MA — Twenty-one percent of the town's 24,000 residents have received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to new state data released Thursday.

The statewide figure is 22 percent.

The state's vaccine rollout prioritizing the most vulnerable residents is bearing fruit in Wilmington, where those 65 or older have received the majority of vaccinations. Seventy percent of those 75 or older have received at least one dose and 39 percent of them are fully vaccinated.

Forty-four percent of those 65-74 have received at least one dose while 11 percent are fully vaccinated.

Overall, 5,029 of 24,460 residents in Wilmington have received at least one dose and 2,524 are fully vaccinated — 10 percent of the population.

The data also includes vaccination rates by race, ethnicity and sex for each city and town, as well as by zip code.

In Wilmington, multi-racial residents have been vaccinated at the highest rate: 12 percent have been vaccinated. Just 7 percent of Asian residents have been fully vaccinated; 9 percent of white residents have. Data is not available for other groups.

The Department of Public Health also released town-by-town coronavirus metrics, which showed a slight reversal after weeks of decline in Wilmington. The positive test rate rose to nearly 3 percent.
