5 Things About The Overnight Events In Cambridge and Watertown

It was a violent and tragic night in and around Boston. Here are 5 things you should know.

 

Here are 5 pieces of information you should know regarding the events that took place last night and into this morning in Cambridge and Watertown.

1. One Police Officer Killed, One Seriously Wounded: The events of last niht began with the robbery of a 7-11 in Cambridge. In the aftermath, an MIT Police Officer was murdered in his cruiser, allegedly by the suspects. These suspects allegedly carjacked a vehicle and drove to Watertown. In a gun battle between the suspects and the police, a Transit Police Officer was wounded. He is said to be in serious condition.

2. These Suspects ARE Connected To Monday's Marathon Bombing: In a press conference, Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis said the incidents of last night are, in fact, connected to Monday's bombings and that the same people are involved. He also called these people terrorists who "wanted to kill people." It wa also conformed that the suspects were throwing explosive devices similar to grenades out of their car while being pursued by police.

3. One Suspect Dead and One Being Sought: As of 5 a.m., police were still searching for one of the suspects in the case. He has been identified as the "suspect in the white ball cap" in photos and video released by the FBI from Monday's bombings. Law enforcement has confirmed that the second suspect was wounded in the gun battle with police and later died.

4. Watertown in Lockdown: Again, as of 5 a.m., Watertown residents are being told not to leave their homes. The suspect at-large is described as armed and extremely dangerous. A perimeter has been established as a building to building search is conducted. No motor vehicle or bike traffic is being allowed into the area. Some homes are being evacuated.

5. More Explosive Devices: During the course of the evening, law enforcement officials and journalists were told to turn off their cell phones because multiple explosive devices had been located on the streets of Watertown and there was concern that they could be inadvertantly triggered by cell phone signals.

MBTA Service Cancelled: All MBTA Service has been cancelled for Friday as a result of these incidents.
