Edith A. 'Edy' (Carlon) Carter, 90, of Wilmington

Edith was raised and educated in the Wilmington school system; she spent all of her 90 years as a Wilmington resident.

WILMINGTON, MA - Edith A. “Edy” (Carlon) Carter, age 90, of Wilmington, passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family that loved her.

Edith was born on May 25, 1925, on Glen Road in Wilmington. She was the cherished daughter of the late George and Annie H. (Annable) Carlon. Edith was raised and educated in the Wilmington school system; she spent all of her 90 years as a Wilmington resident.

Edith married the boy next door; Luther (Arnie) Carter. After his untimely passing at the age of 47 in April of 1964, Edith took on the role of a single mother and raised six children herself. Edith was proud of her six children, Richard, Gary, Donna, Diane, Kenneth and Robert.

When her children were all in school, Edith went to work for Compugraphic as a Quality Inspector for many years.

In her spare time, Edith liked to go to watch horse and dog races, as well as an occasional trip to play Bingo. She enjoyed taking trips to the beach and spending time with her family.

Edith will be remembered not only for her great love for her family, but also her love of scratch tickets, Bobby Vinton music and sneaking sweets. Edith was delighted to be known as “Grammy” to so many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edith was the wife of the late Luther A. Carter, mother of Richard Carter & his wife Patricia of Nottingham, NH, Gary Carter & his fiancée Brenda Haslam of Tewksbury, Donna Akerley & her husband Danny of Manchester, NH, Diane Bellegarde of Wilmington, Kenneth Carter & his wife Marilynn of Reading and Robert Carter & his wife Linda of Tewksbury, loving “Grammy” of Cathrine, Christopher, Patrick, Richard II, Amanda & her husband Tyler, Desiree, Nathan, Melissa, Nevin, Kelli, Casey, Kristen, William, Sarah, Mathew and many great-grandchildren, including Zachary, Benjamin and Conway.

Family and friends will gather for a Funeral at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, March 18 from 5–8 p.m.
