The Gentle Giant is Finally Home!!

Kevin Burke returns home after ATV accident in March

This morning, after 74 days at both Mass General Hospital and Spaulding Rehab, our gentle giant, Kevin Burke has returned home. On Saturday, March 17th Kevin suffered a traumatic brain injury due to an ATV accident. With the immediate response from the Wilmington Fire Department and Wilmington Police Department and their incredible level of care, they were able to stabilize Kevin and transport him quickly to Mass General where he was in ICU and endured many surgeries to stabilize his brain injury. Upon leaving ICU at MGH he was transported to Spaulding and received Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy and continually amazed everyone that worked with him daily.

Thanks to the level of care he received by the WFD/WPD, MGH Neuro Team and Spaulding, Kevin returned home to this incredible community today seated in the front of Engine 3 with some firefighters that saved his life that March afternoon. We will forever be thankful for their services and the tremendous job they did for Kevin back in March and the Welcome Home they gave him today. A special THANK YOU to Bob Woods and Tom Ceres from the WFD and Dave Bradbury from WPD, you certainly made Kevin's day today!
