MBTA's Late Night Service Ends Friday Night

The last trains, as well as the Silver Line, will depart downtown Boston stations at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, March 19.

WILMINGTON, MA - If you've been taking advantage of the MBTA's late-night service for the past two years, Friday night will be the last night you can do so.

Beginning Friday night, March 18, the MBTA is ending is late-night Friday and Saturday service on both Rapid Transit and Key Bus Routes where the service was offered.

The MBTA says the last Red, Orange, Green and Blue Line trains, as well as the Silver Line (SL1) will depart downtown Boston stations at approximately 2 a.m. on Saturday, March 19.

The MBTA's Fiscal Management Control Board voted 4-0 late last month to end the late-night service experiment, which extended subway lines – and some bus routes – by 90 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights.

The vote came the same day the MBTA announced its intentions to cut its operating budget by 43 percent in the 2017 Fiscal Year. Board members said at the time of the vote the T simply couldn't afford to continue with the pilot program.
