Minutemen Elect Officers, Prepare to March On Concord

Group will commemorate the first days of the Revolutionary War.

Their command structure in place, the Wilmington Minutemen are preparing to march on Concord this weekend.

The Minutemen, Wilmington's Revolutionary War regiment, recently elected leader for 2013. The officers are as follows:

  • Captain Frank West
  • Lieutenant Paul Rich
  • Company Sergeant Bill Robinson
  • Adjutant Sergeant Nanci Robinson

The installation ceremony was conducted by Wilmington Historical Commission Chairperson Carolyn Harris. State Rep. James Miceli (D-Wilmington) was the guest speaker.

The first assignment for the Wilmington Minutemen for 2013 will be the annual March on Cord, which will take place Saturday night, April 13. Members of the  Minutemen will march from the Wilmington Town Common at 2 a.m. to Miriam's Corner in Concord to commemorate the first days of the Revolutionary War.

With the Minutemen will be Boy Scouts from Troop 136.

Residents might well hear some loud bangs that night, as the Minutemen will be firing the muskets from the town common to the Burlington Ave bridge. They will meet up with members of the Bedford Minutemen once the group hits Bedford.

According to Capt. West, the Wilmington Minutemen are a family oriented organization that is always seeking new members. Membership is open to men and women (families too) who are interested in attending various events including parades and reenactments and discussions on colonial times.

Cost of membership is $10 per year.
