Motorcyclist Dies In I-93 Crash In Wilmington

A Methuen man riding a motorcycle died when he struck a minivan that had stopped in a lane while facing the wrong direction on I-93.

WILMINGTON, MA — A Methuen man died Wednesday morning in a motorcycle crash into a minivan on Interstate 93 in Wilmington, Massachusetts State Police said. State Police have identified the man as Diego Rodriguez, 51.

The crash happened around 1:10 a.m., on the northbound side of the highway near exit 38. State Police said a 44-year-old Lynn man was driving a Toyota minivan. His van rotated and came to a stop in the second lane from the left, facing the wrong direction.

State Police said Rodriguez, who was riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle, tried to stop but couldn't. The motorcycle struck the front of the minivan, causing Rodriguez to suffer fatal injuries. Rodriguez was ruled dead on scene. State Police said the minivan driver was not injured.

State Police said are working to determine what caused the minivan driver to stop and end up facing the wrong direction. Charges may come later.

All four lanes of the highway were closed until a little after 3:30 a.m., white emergency officials responded to the crash.
