State Denies Wilmington Police Officer's Request For Probe

Michael Wandell asked the state Civil Service Commission to look into how the town handled its eligibility list for police sergeant.

WILMINGTON, MA —The Massachusetts Civil Service Commission denied a Wilmington Police officer's request to investigate whether the state’s Human Resources Division was justified in allowing the town to extend the eligible list for police sergeant was denied last week.

In its June 3 ruling, the commission said Wandell failed to "identify any alleged personal or political animus regarding the decision to extend the eligible list." Wandell declined comment to the Lowell Sun, which first reported this story.

In Massachusetts, law enforcement officers who have taken entry-level or promotional exams are placed on active eligibility lists for consideration when openings become available.
