Walgreens Confirms It Will Close Wilmington Rite Aid

Customer prescriptions will be transferred to the Tewksbury Walgreens.

WILMINGTON, MA -- A spokesperson for Walgreens confirmed Wednesday that the chain will close its Wilmington location, which had been acquired last year from Rite Aid. The store's pharmacy will close on June 26, and the rest of the store will close following a liquidation sale of the store's inventory.

The Wilmington location was one of more than 1,900 acquired from Rite Aid by Walgreen's last year. Existing prescriptions will be transferred to the Tewksbury Walgreens, the spokesperson said. While Walgreens is rebranding 1,300 of the Rite Aid stores, it had previously said it would close about 600 Rite Aid pharmacies as part of its $4.4 billion acquisition.

Walgreens had operated a location at 277 Main Street in Wilmington. That property has been vacant since Walgreens closed the store in 2015.
