Wilmington Begins Reopening Public Recreation Spaces

WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington's public recreation spaces began reopening Memorial Day after over two months of closure. The town's athletic fields, baseball/softball fields, dog park, tennis/pickleball courts and Town Forest, Rotary Park and Town Common all reopened Monday.

As part of the state's phase one reopening plan, restrictions on recreational areas were eased beginning Monday.

But not all the town's recreation spaces have been reopened: Yentile Farm and the basketball courts, playgrounds and skate park will remain closed through phase one of the state's reopening.

The recreation areas that have reopened are still restricted. Pick-up games and organized games and tournaments are barred, as is sharing equipment including sports gear and dog toys. Contact sports are banned.

At the baseball/softball fields, only "toss and catch activities" are allowed, the bleachers and dug-outs are closed and "only players from same family" are permitted.

The Town Forest, Rotary Park and Town Common are open only for passive recreation, and social distancing and/or masks are required.

The town will not be issuing permits for the athletic and baseball/softball fields.
