Wilmington Commuters Get Reprieve On MBTA Parking Rate Increase

A 50 percent weekday parking rate increase was supposed to have gone in effect on August 1.

WILMINGTON, MA -- Commuters who take the MBTA commuter rail from Wilmington get another month of $4 weekday parking. The state's transit agency delayed parking rate changes at its commuter rail stations to September 1. The rates, which have weekday parking going up to $6 and weekend parking down to $2, were originally supposed to take effect August 1.

The parking fee changes come after the MBTA reviewed traffic at its lots. In addition to Wilmington, 31 other lots are seeing rates go up, while fees are being lowered at 21 lots. Another 46 lots will see no parking fee changes. The MBTA expects the changes to increase revenue by $8.5 million per year.
