Wilmington Police Announce Upcoming R.A.D. Class

RAD training class offered.

WILMINGTON - Chief Michael Begonis is pleased to announce that the Wilmington Police Department will be holding a Basic Physical Defense for Women course this April. The Rape Aggression Defense System (R.A.D.) is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics and techniques for women.

The R.A.D. System is dedicated to teaching women defense concepts and techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing easy, effective and proven self-defense/martial arts tactics.

The course begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and progresses to hands-on physical defense techniques. The course is taught be certified R.A.D. instructors from the Wilmington Police Department and is open to women ages 15 and up.

No previous self-defense experience is required.

This course consists of four classes, each of which are three hours long. Participants should attend all four evenings. The schedule is as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 4, from 6-9 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 5, from 6-9 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 11, from 6-9 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 12, from 6-9 p.m.
