Wilmington Police To Be Assessed For Re-Accreditation
The department will be evaluated in August by the non-profit Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission.

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Police Department will be evaluated in August for re-accreditation by a state goup.
Assessors from the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission will arrive Aug. 10 to examine the departments policies, procedures operations and facilities.
The Commission is a non-profit, not a government body and accreditation is voluntary.

"State Accreditation is a self-initiated evaluation process by which police departments strive to meet and maintain standards that have been established for the profession, by the profession," the department said in a release.
The Commission has 257 mandatory standards and 125 optional ones, of which departments must meet at least 60.
