Wilmington's ' Fun On Fourth' Activities

Wilmington Fourth of July Committee has just released the schedule for the 2017 Wilmington Fun on the Fourth celebration.

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Fourth of July Committee has just released the schedule for the 2017 Wilmington Fun on the Fourth celebration.

The celebration will be held on and around the Wilmington Town Common from Thursday, June 29 to Sunday, July 2.

The carnival, which is operated this year by Cushing Amusements instead of Fiesta Shows, will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday; 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday; noon to 10 p.m. on Saturday; and 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday.

A spectacular fireworks display is planned for Sunday, July 2 at 9:30 p.m.

In addition to the popular Food Court, Community Meals will be provided by the Rotary Club (Hamburger & Hot Dogs on Thursday); Wilmington Sons of Italy Jr. Lodge and Wilmington Figure Skating Club (Chinese Food on Friday); Knights of Columbus (Pancakes, Waffles & Eggs Breakfast on Saturday); Wilmington Kiwanis Club (Ham & Beans on Saturday); and Wilmington Minutemen (Pancakes and Sausages on Sunday).

Concerts will be performed by the WHS Alumni Band, the Jay Taylor Band (new this year), the Haverty Brothers Band, and the Windham Community Band.

Longtime traditions — like the 3-on-3 basketball competition, horseshoes, road race, ladies 2-mile walk, hospital bed race, and blueberry pie eating contest — all return. Wiffle ball returns after a hiatus for several years.

There will be a new tradition, a cornhole tournament, on Family Day.

The Committee also released the schedule for the Wilmington Family Day on Saturday, July 1.

The Wilmington Fourth of July Committee will be releasing additional information regarding these events in the coming weeks.
