WOBURN, MA — Work on the Salem Street bridge replacement project in Woburn was scheduled to begin Wednesday morning. The Massachusetts Department of Transportation said the work will be done in four stages so the bridge can be kept open to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. In the first phase, one lane of traffic will remain open in either direction, while pedestrian traffic will be moved to the north side of the bridge with temporary crosswalks.

Drivers can expect some delays during the first phase, which is scheduled to run through the fall. Signs, traffic control devices, and law enforcement details will be used to guide drivers through the work zone.
