Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
McCorkle: The ability to help people achieve their goals. I started in this industry as a summer floating teller for BayBank back in 1988.
Patch: If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger in five words, what would those words be?
McCorkle: “Familiar Faces Invested in You”
Patch: What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your job?
McCorkle: One of the biggest challenges is the rapid advancement in the technology of our business. You want to make sure that you have the latest and greatest to be able to meet our members ever changing needs.
Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
McCorkle: When you’re able to help someone achieve a personal goal when it comes to their personal finances— that’s extremely rewarding.
Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
McCorkle: I would say the biggest difference is the personal service that we provide our members. Too often today, institutions try to move away from the personal touch and make technology the basis of every transactions. But we want to exceed our members expectations each and every time with a memorable interaction.
Patch: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?
McCorkle: Someone once told me that there are three types of people in the world: people who make things happen, people who watch things happen and people who say what just happened. Always be the person who makes things happen! And a second memorable piece of advice is if you pick up a piece of paper from your desk, do something with it— don’t just move it to the other side of the desk.
Patch: Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about?
McCorkle: This year we will continue to teach Financial Literacy to 8th graders at the Kennedy Middle School in Woburn and we will be working to bring Financial Literacy to elementary schools.
Patch: Do you have any events coming up in your community?
McCorkle: We will again be sponsoring the 22nd annual Step Out for Hospice, a benefit for VNA Hospice & Palliative Care on Sunday October 6, 2019 in Woburn.
