Daily Times Chronicle Names Late Woburn Coach Fall Coach of the Year

Despite the loss of O'Connor, the Tanners took their first Middlesex League title in 21 years.

WOBURN, MA — While the loss of late Woburn Memorial High School track and cross country coach Bill O'Connor deeply saddened the community, many have reflected on the legacy he left during his 44-year career. On Tuesday, the Daily Times Chronicle posthumously named O'Connor as the paper's Fall Coach of the Year.

O'Connor tragically passed away on Oct. 15 after a bout with cancer at the age of 72. Despite the potentially devastating loss the Woburn Girls Cross Country team captured the Division 2 team title in the Eastern State Divisional Meet, and finished third in the Division 1 All-State meet.

As cross country coach, O'Connor captured eight Middlesex League championships, seven invitational and ten state finalist teams.
