ICYMI: Beloved Woburn Track Coach Dies after Bout with Cancer

Many took to social media to pay tribute to the beloved Woburn track and cross country coach.

WOBURN, MA — A beloved Woburn track and cross country coach has passed away.

Woburn Memorial High School track and Cross Country coach James Fletcher tweeted Sunday that longtime track coach Bill O'Connor had passed away. He was 72 years old.

The Daily Times Chronicle reports that O'Connor lost a long battle with Cancer earlier Sunday morning. According to O'Connor's obituary from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, calling hours for the coach were held Wednesday at 3 p.m. A memorial mass will be announced in the coming weeks.

On Monday, the Woburn Public Schools twitter account offered its condolences to O'Connor's loved ones and former athletes.

Student-athletes will be wearing orange Monday to honor the late coach. Many took to social media to react to O'Connor's passing.

Remembrances will be made in O'Connor's memory to the Woburn Memorial High School Scholarship Fund, in memory of William “Coach” O’Connor, P.O. Box 202, Woburn, MA 01801.
