JMS students hold Hat Day Fundraiser
Students in the Social Communication class at JMS sponsor fundraiser for Seeing Eye, Inc in New Jersey

On Friday October 26, 2018, Mrs. Solares Social Communication class at the Joyce Middle School, held a hat day fundraiser to raise money to sponsor a Seeing Eye puppy for The Seeing Eye, Inc. in Morristown, New Jersey. As a part of their Social Group and English classes, students were divided into groups and were responsible for making posters, creating a PA announcement, creating an email and Tweet to send out district wide, creating an announcement to send home with students and labeling homeroom envelopes for donation collection. The students have read about Morris Frank, the real life founder of The Seeing Eye, and are currently reading a novel about a reluctant blind young man, who is paired up with a guide dog named Shakespeare, and all of the trials and difficulties as they work together to gain independence. After reading our Tweet, the Spreading Sunshine club at WHMS, joined our efforts and raised $92.00 which was added to our collection for a total of $447.00. Learning continued in small group math class, as the students counting and adding all of the money collected, practicing our decimal knowledge. It was a tremendous group effort by students in the Social Communication class as well as the Woburn Public Schools community.
