Longtime Woburn Coach Nelson Begins Final Campaign Friday Night

Head coach Rocky Nelson heads into his final season at the helm for the Tanners Friday night. Here are the details for Friday's game.

WOBURN, MA — Longtime Woburn football coach Rocky Nelson and his Woburn Memorial High School Tanners will take the field at Connolly Memorial Stadium for the final season opener of Nelson's storied career.

The Tanners will take on North Andover at Connolly Stadium Friday night for their season opener, the 31st of Nelson's storied career. Back in April, Nelson announced he would be stepping down after the 2016 campaign.

Woburn not only hopes to start the season out on a high note, but to avenge last year's 27-15 loss to North Andover. The team also hopes to improve from a 5-6 campaign last year.

The game begins at 7 p.m. at the stadium. The Tanners will play five of seven of their seven regular season games at Connolly Stadium this season, and will face only Lexington and Melrose on the road this season.

The Tanners will also be playing rival Winchester at home this season.
