New Comfort Puppy Needs Name, Middlesex DA Opens Contest

WOBURN, MA — The Middlesex District Attorney’s office is asking children across the county for help naming a new comfort puppy they're adding to the team.

The little male Black English Lab is expected to join the Middlesex District Attorney's office in April where he will be in training for several months. Once he's on the job, he will work with employees and police across the county in an effort to promote wellness, according to the District Attorney.

“The benefit of dogs in the aftermath of a stressful or traumatic situation has been well demonstrated ranging from reduced anxiety and stress to increased confidence," District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement.

This is a first for the district attorney's office.

Children who want to submit a name for the puppy have until April 3, to submit them to the Middlesex District Attorney's website form here.

Names must be one or two syllables, according to the district attorney.

The winner will receive a prize and a visit from the new puppy, if it's possible to do so for that child while taking into consideration COVID-19 safety protocols, according to the DA's office.

The winner will be announced in April when the puppy officially joins the office.
