The work is part of the ongoing MBTA Green Line extension project.

WOBURN, MA— From MassDOT: The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) has announced there will be lane closures and traffic impacts on Salem Street in Woburn between Wildwood Avenue and Pine Street beginning the evening of Friday, May 10, and continuing through Sunday, May 12. These impacts are necessary to allows crews and contractors to demolish the Salem Street Bridge as part of the ongoing bridge replacement project.
This work is being coordinated with ongoing Green Line Extension project operations that are requiring weekend diversions of the MBTA Lowell Line Commuter Rail in order to minimize impacts on the traveling public and local community.
During this time, there will be one-way alternating traffic on this section of Salem Street. If necessary due to work operations, eastbound vehicular traffic on Salem Street will be detoured via Montvale Avenue, and westbound traffic will be detoured via Washington Street.

This $5.4 million bridge replacement project will be constructed in four stages. In this first stage, one travel lane in each direction will be open on the northern portion of the bridge. All pedestrian traffic will also be rerouted to the north side of the bridge using temporary crosswalks. This traffic pattern will remain in place throughout the first stage of construction.
Drivers traveling through the affected areas should expect delays, reduce speed, and use caution. Signage and messaging will be in place to notify drivers of these impacts. All scheduled work is weather dependent and may be impacted due to an emergency situation.
