Obituary: Joseph A. Pineau, 83, of Woburn

Joseph A. “Joe” Pineau passed away Sunday, June 7th at the Wilmington Health Care Center. The beloved husband of Madelyn A. (Flynn) Pineau, he was eighty-three years of age.

Born and raised in Woburn, “Joe,” as he was affectionately known, was one of nine children of the late Isadore and Veronica (Arsenault) Pineau. He attended Keith Academy in Lowell before enlisting in the Air Force and proudly serving his country during the Korean War. When he returned home, Joe began working in the construction industry, and remained involved for the next forty years, retiring as a Construction Superintendent.

In the early 1950’s, Joe met the love of his life, Madelyn, through mutual friends in Woburn. The two married in August of 1953 and spent the next sixty-one years devoted to one another. They brought six children into the world, whom they adored. They made their home in North Woburn and would spend every summer at Lake Winnisquam in Belmont, New Hampshire. As the family grew, Joe loved becoming “Boo” to his eight grandchildren, and later four great-grandchildren. The tradition of summer continued and they loved just being together. Whether it was tending to his vegetable garden or fishing on the Lake, Joe truly enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with his immediate and extended family.

An active man throughout his life, Joe became the Clerk of the Works in the City of Woburn and oversaw the construction of the Woburn Police Station and the Linscott Rumford School. Having been a construction superintendent, he also oversaw the construction of many buildings throughout New England. His family has continued in his footsteps, as his sons and grandsons have now gone into the same industry. Before he retired in the year 2000, Joe’s final job was as Assistant Building Inspector in Woburn. A hardworking gentleman, Joe had an excellent work ethic that he has passed down to his children and grandchildren. Joe was also very active in St. Anthony Parish, and served as an Usher for more than fifty years.

A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all, Joe was a man of great integrity, love, and respect.

In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by an infant son, his daughter, Kathleen A. Gibbons, and his siblings, Leo Pineau, Ray Pineau, Za Gilmore, Bunny Nutile, Mary Tancreti, Muriel Caldwell, and Eileen Meader.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Madelyn A. (Flynn) Pineau; his children, Stephen Pineau and his wife Natalie of FL, Diane Malone and her husband Steven of Woburn, Patrick Pineau and his wife Susan of IL, Timothy Pineau and his wife Jean of Woburn; his son-in-law, Ronald P. Gibbons of Woburn; his sister, Alma Fulmer of Arlington; his grandchildren, Christy and her husband Paul, Joseph and his wife Michelle, Cara and her husband Tom, Brandon and his wife Catherine, Julie and her husband Rob, Steven, Nicholas, and Dillon; and his great-grandchildren, Connor, Aiden, Norah, and Madelyn.

Funeral from the Lynch-Cantillon Funeral Home, 263 Main Street, Woburn on Thursday, June 11th at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony Church, 851 Main Street, Woburn at 11. Interment is private. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to call at the Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Remembrances may be made in Joe’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O.
