Woburn Cancellations Mount Even With Storm Uncertainty

We have all the details on what you need to know to weather Wednesday's storm.

WOBURN, MA -- While forecasters are still trying to decide whether we will see mostly snow or mostly rain with the storm hitting the region tomorrow, many Woburn groups are canceling events. Woburn Patch will update this story as we learn of cancellations.

Woburn Public Schools have canceled all afternoon and evening activities on Wednesday. These include:

  • The Woburn High School boys and girls basketball teams will now play their tournament doubleheader against Belmont on Thursday instead of Wednesday. The games will still be at 5:30 and 7:30 pm but have been pushed back a day because of the predicted snowstorm.
  • Woburn Memorial High School has rescheduled parent-teacher conference that were to have been held Wednesday. The new date for the conferences is March 15 from 2 to 4 pm.
  • On Monday, a meeting on school safety that had been scheduled for Wednesday was postponed. The new date for the meeting, where law enforcement representatives will discuss school safety measures, is March 13 at 7 pm at Woburn Memorial High School

The latest forecast called for snow mixed with rain starting late Wednesday morning and continuing into Thursday afternoon. The total snow accumulation -- which had been as high as two feet in parts of Massachusetts -- is expected in the 4-8 inch range in Woburn, according to forecasters.

The city is likely to declare a snow emergency and will make a decision on whether or not schools will be open. The city will post a notice on its Website when it has declared and lifted a snow emergency. Vehicles have to removed from the street during snow emergencies. If you do not have off-street parking, there is parking available to residents in assigned municipal parking lots. For more information, contact the Woburn Police Department 781-933-1212.
