WOBURN, MA — State Rep. Richard Haggerty is leading a call by Massachusetts legislators to restore the Logan Express bus routes suspended during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Woburn route was suspended in Jan. 2021 and the Peabody and Back Bay routes have been out since March 2020. Only the Braintree and Framingham routes remain in service.

Haggerty sent a letter to Massport CEO Lisa Wieland, with the support of 23 other state representatives and two state senators from communities hit by the lack of transportation options to and from Logan

“Residents in my district and our region shouldn’t be treated any differently than residents in other parts of our state,” Haggerty said in a statement. “Logan Express is a vital link for business and leisure travel, and it should be reinstated immediately following the CDC’s updated guidance."

Haggerty noted that the state is on track to vaccinate 4.1 million residents by the first week of June and lift nearly all coronavirus restrictions Saturday.

"More and more people are beginning to travel, and the reinstatement of service will ease access to the airport, decrease congestion locally, on our highways and at Logan," Haggerty said. "We also value the positive environmental impacts of getting cars off the road and encouraging people to use mass transit again.”

Massport said in Dec. that it was suspending the Woburn route due to reduced demand. There have been no updates on the resumption of service.

"We would appreciate your swift action of the reinstatement of Logan Express service in Woburn, Peabody and Back Bay," the legislators wrote to Wieland.
