Sinkhole Swallows Car In Woburn

Wildwood Avenue at Olympia Street remains closed as of Wednesday morning, according to the city's Website.

WOBURN, MA -- A Woburn police officer pulled a 20-year-old man to safety through the window of his car after the man car was swallowed by a sinkhole on Wildwood Avenue near the intersection of Olympia Avenue Tuesday morning. The sinkhole was caused by a water main break, and crews were on scene into Tuesday evening working to repair the break and patch the road.

According to a message on the city's Website, the road remained closed as of 5 am on Wednesday.

Water rose to the level of the car's steering wheel and crews from the Woburn Department of Public Works had to try to stop the flow of water with the car still lodged in the hole, officials said.
