Local restrictions
The city has declared a winter snow emergency. Here's what we know about how local officials are handling the storm. Check the city website for the most up-to-date information.
Parking ban
The parking ban goes into effect at 8 p.m. and remains until 8 p.m. Thursday. All on-street parking is banned.
Parking is available at all municipal lots except the school parking lots, the city said. Vehicles should be removed by 8 p.m. Thursday so that the Department of Public Works can clear the lots.
Trash collection
Trash and recycling collection is on a one day delay. Thursday pickups will happen Friday and Friday pickups Saturday.
School cancellations
Schools will be remote Thursday, the district announced.
During a normal year, the news of a snow storm heading for Woburn would bring on the prospect that school could be canceled. Amid pandemic and with an online school system in place, that prospect in Woburn dimmed.
This year, because of hybrid and distance learning models in place, the state has granted permission to districts to shift to a "distance learning day" instead of canceling in-person school because of inclement weather. This day will count as a day of school and all students will be expected to log in online to classes.
Other measures
City Hall and other municipal buildings will be closed on Thursday, the city said.
Fire hydrants: "The city asks residents who are able to assist with keeping the fire hydrant closest to their residence or business clear of snow," the city said. "The Fire Department requests a three-foot clearance on all sides for best access to hydrants. The Woburn Fire Department will also be out there clearing hydrants, but is extremely grateful for any and all assistance that residents are able to provide during winter storms."
