Woburn to Approve $35M Hurld-Wyman School Bond

The new elementary school is slated to be built at the former Spence Farm location.

Woburn’s City Council Finance Committee is in complete support of the $35 million bond proposal for the construction of a new Hurld-Wyman Elementary School, the Daily Times reports.

According to the newspaper, the City Council could approve the funds by as early as Tuesday.

If approved, the new elementary school would be built on a four-acre slab of land located at the old Spence Farm.

Assuming the appropriation is approved, property taxes in Woburn will increase by roughly $60 per year over a 30-year period, Mayor Scott Galvin noted.

The state of Massachusetts will pay for over half of the project’s cost as part of the School Building Association.

Richard Gately, Woburn’s Ward 2 Alderman, reportedly called the $35 million a “good figure.”
