WOBURN, Mass. (September 13, 2019) – Woburn-based commercial real estate firm Cummings Properties recently cut checks totaling $265,000 to local charities through its Cummings Community Giving program. All of its leasing clients of 20 years or more, as well as select associates of the organization, had the opportunity to direct a $1,000 donation to a local nonprofit of their choice.

The funds were divided among 218 charities, most of which are based in Middlesex, Essex, and Suffolk County. Several charities received multiple donations, including Beverly Bootstraps ($6,000), Dana-Farber Cancer Institute ($7,000), Jamie McKeown Boys and Girls Club ($4,000), and Woburn Council of Social Concern ($4,000).

“We like to say that ‘our buildings power charities,’” said Cummings Properties president Eric Anderson. “Cummings Community Giving gives us an opportunity to thank our long-term clients by including them in the decision of how their leasing dollars support local communities.”

The majority of the 10 million square feet of commercial space managed by Cummings is owned by Cummings Foundation, with 100 percent of all rental profits going to charitable causes. The Cummings organization has already awarded more than $25 million to greater Boston nonprofits in 2019, and it has awarded more than $260 million to date.

Little Folks Day School, a licensed provider of early education services in Woburn, has leased commercial space with Cummings Properties for 37 years.

“I’ve stayed in West Cummings Park because it’s such a convenient location with all the other businesses here,” said owner and director Sue Ellen Holland. “The people at Cummings have always been great – if I ever have a problem, help is just a call away.”

Holland is among many Cummings Community Giving participants who chose to deliver the good news (and the $1,000 donation check) in person. Holland met with Woburn Community Educational Foundation founding director Maureen Willis to present the gift.

Woburn Community Educational Foundation is a private nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase private investment and community involvement in Woburn Public Schools.

“I taught in the Woburn public school system and put three children through its schools,” said Holland. “I chose Woburn Community Educational Foundation because it finances programs that don’t typically receive public funding.”

Cummings Properties’ more than 350 full-time employees will be invited to participate in Cummings Community Giving this November. Formerly named Employee Directed Giving, the program was expanded in 2018 to include long-term clients and some other associates with whom the organization has strong ties.

Cummings Community Giving has awarded more than $1.74 million since its 2012 inception. More information, including the complete recipient list, is available at cummings.com/ccg.
