Woburn Council Looking To Make Outdoor Dining Permanent
A zoning amendment would make outdoor and rooftop dining space part of the core definition of a restaurant in the city.
WOBURN, MA — Woburn City Council is looking to make the pandemic expansion to outdoor dining permanent.
A pair of zoning amendments the council could vote on Tuesday would include outdoor and rooftop spaces in the definition of full-service restaurants and allow rooftop dining by special permit in all zoning districts that allow full-service restaurants.
Council President Edward Tedesco and Alderman Robert Ferullo sponsored the outdoor dining ordinance, which has the support of the city's Chamber of Commerce.

Outdoor dining applications were fast-tracked statewide last summer in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but the state of emergency underlying that policy is due to expire Tuesday. The city measure would make it easier for the outdoor dining spaces that sprung up across the city to continue operation.
