Woburn Council Wants Updates On Washington Street Improvements
Two developers promised upgrades that would improve traffic on the notoriously congested road.

WOBURN, MA -- Representatives from Woburn Foreign Motors and Madison Properties, which is developing the mixed-use Woburn Landing, will appear before City Council in September or October to give a status report on traffic improvements on Washington Street. Woburn Foreign Motors is finishing work on a 152,000-square-foot showroom while Madison Properties continues work on Woburn Landing. Both companies had promised to address concerns about increased congestion from the properties, which sit kitty-corner to one another on Washington Street at the 128 North on and off ramps.
Work on the second phase of the Washington Street improvement project is already underway. The work includes widening the road near both properties. But even as that work nears completion, there have been complaints of increased gridlock on the road. At its meeting last week, Woburn City Council expressed concerns and want to address the issue as work continues at Woburn Landing. To date, only a Red Robin is open on the site, but work is moving forward on a restaurant, a Chic-Fil-A with a drive through, a hotel and another restaurant tenant.
As part of the approval of Woburn Landing, Madison Properties agreed to undertake several traffic improvements on Washington Street, including widening on- and off-ramps to Route 128, reconfiguring and retiming traffic signals to offer better traffic flow through the area and expanding Tower Park Drive from one to two lanes of traffic.
