With the opioid epidemic touching so many, the City of Woburn is looking to equip all of its schools with Narcan, an antagonist used to prevent or reverse the effects of opioid overdoses.
At a recent School Committee meeting, Woburn’s Substance Abuse Task Force proposed the idea, the Woburn Advocate reports. School nurses would be the first trained on how to use it.

According to Rick Jolly, of the Substance Abuse Task Force, 37 doses of Narcan have been administered in Woburn so far this year. Installing injection kits at the schools would cost just $350 per kit.
As part of Jolly’s proposal, teachers, administrators and athletic coaches would also be trained to use Narcan.
