Best Places To Shop On Black Friday In Metro Detroit

WalletHub recently released its 2019 ranking of the best places to shop on Black Friday. See which retailers made the list.

METRO DETROIT, MI — Shopping on Black Friday has become an American tradition, and the consumer holiday is right around the corner. The special day of sales falls on Nov. 29 in 2019, with stores in Metro Detroit offering a variety of great deals and discounts.

The personal finance website WalletHub recently released its 2019’s Best Places to Shop on Black Friday.

Here are the retailers around Metro Detroit with the highest average discount on everything in the store:

  1. JCPenney: 61.0 percent
  2. Kohl’s: 57.1 percent
  3. New York & Co.: 56.3 percent
  4. Dick’s Sporting Goods: 52.3 percent
  5. Sears: 49.2 percent
  6. Macy’s: 46.1 percent
  7. BJ’s: 39.3 percent
  8. Meijer: 38.5 percent
  9. Nordstrom: 36.9 percent
  10. Office Depot: 36.6 percent
  11. Staples: 34.7 percent
  12. Walmart: 34.3 percent
  13. Target: 34.3 percent
  14. Best Buy: 29.5 percent
  15. Big Lots: 27.9 percent
  16. Amazon: 25.4 percent
  17. Costco: 21.3 percent
  18. True Value: 20.6 percent

The department store Stage finished with the highest overall average discount on its entire inventory. But JCPenney took the top spot in the best average discount for products related to computers and phones, packaged goods, and toys.

Walmart has the highest average discount on all books, movies and music products, at 73.18 percent.

To determine the retailers offering the best money-saving bargains this Black Friday, WalletHub analyzed nearly 8,000 deals in the 2019 Black Friday ads from 29 of the biggest U.S. retailers.

The deals were then sorted into 11 different product categories, such as apparel and accessories, consumer electronics, and video games.

With all the fantastic discounts available on Black Friday, it’s still important to have a financial plan.

“How not to overspend on Black Friday?” Larry Connaster, a family financial management specialist at Virginia State University, noted in the report. “Customers should set a budget on spending on Black Friday and other holidays, like Christmas. Your budget should have a line item for ‘holiday saving’ so that you can save for gifts and special spending on holidays.”
