Dearborn Declares Snow Emergency; Here's What To Know

Residents will be ticketed $80 for cars parked on the street Monday evening.

DEARBORN, MI --The City of Dearborn has declared a snow emergency effective at 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28. That means as of 8 p.m. Jan. 28, all parked vehicles must be removed from Dearborn streets to allow for safe and efficient snowplowing. Parked vehicles will be ticketed and those tickets are $80, city officials said.

Parked vehicles must remain off the streets until the snow emergency is lifted, even if your street has been plowed once.

Outdoor sirens will sound at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, 2019 announcing the snow emergency. They will sound again at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 as a reminder.

City crews have been on the roads plowing and salting on Monday, Jan. 29, to address the wintry conditions, according to city officials.

During a snow emergency, the city offers alternative parking on some less-traveled sidestreets in northeast and southeast Dearborn, where many residents do not have driveways. Visit www.cityofdearborn.org for a list of streets and maps of the roads. Residents can also park in the parking lots of Levagood, Ford Woods and Hemlock parks temporarily during snow emergencies.

Residents are reminded to assist elderly or disabled residents with snow shoveling. All residents have a responsibility to clear their sidewalks of ice and snow, or they could face penalties. They should also clear snow from around fire hydrants.
