Residents wanting to have trees planted in front of their houses can now order affordable trees through the city of Dearborn.

DEARBORN, MI — Most people love the look and feel of a tree-lined street. Residents wanting to have trees planted in front of their houses can now order affordable trees through the city of Dearborn. There are more than a dozen trees to choose from for the 2018 year to be planted on the easement between houses and the street.

Each tree costs $185, plus tax, and the trees range in height from four to eight feet. They can be planted in the spring or fall. This year’s selection includes: Sugar Maple, American Hornbeam, Hackberry, Tulip Tree, Dawn Redwood, Blackgum, Hophornbeam, London Plane Tree, Burr Oak, Red Oak, Beech, Cleveland Pear, Flowering Cherry, Flowering Dogwood, Hybrid Elm, and Redbud.

Property owners must have a minimum of four feet between the sidewalk and curb in order to have a tree planted. Through a contractor, the Department of Public Works will handle installing the tree and residents are expected to maintain them by regularly watering them.
