Learn About The Future Of Dearborn Transportation At This Meeting

The city has a plan to better integrate driving, biking, walking and even automated vehicles.

DEARBORN, MI — Want to learn more about the future of transportation in Dearborn? Residents are encouraged to attend a public engagement session on the city’s proposed coordinated transportation plan and learn how biking, walking, driving, automated vehicles and other mobility forms can all work together in a modern setting.

The session is 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at the John D. Dingell Transit Center, 21201 Michigan Ave.

The meeting will begin with a short presentation on the preliminary plan followed by opportunities to provide input on the plan. The city values the insights only residents can provide, city officials said in a news release about the event.

The city of Dearborn is in the process of developing its first Multimodal Transportation Plan, which is a tool that will be used to analyze transportation priorities to best meet overall community goals. The Multimodal Transportation Plan will cover the entire city. It takes into account auto, rail, automated vehicles, biking and walking.

Reducing accidents involving cyclists and pedestrians is one of the main objectives for looking into multimodal infrastructure enhancements. Other reasons include attracting a pool of talent to the city, rapid development of automated vehicles, encouraging residents to get fit by engaging in more physical activity, and creating safer streets for the city's aging population.
