METRO DETROIT, MI — Just as Metro Detroiters were drying out their basements and water was receding in yards and freeway ramps, another round of flooding is possible, forecasters say.

A Lakeshore Flood Warning is in effect from 8 a.m. Wednesday to 8 a.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The warning impacts Wayne and Monroe counties.

Here’s what you need to know:

* Lake Shore Flooding - Strengthening northeast winds tonight will lead to increasing water levels across the western lake Erie basin, particularly from Luna Pier southward. Water levels will then increase along the entire lake Erie shoreline Wednesday and Wednesday night as winds shift to easterly. Water levels are forecast to exceed 72 inches during this time, leading to the potential for lakeshore flooding.

* Impacts - High water level combined with high waves will lead to lakeshore flooding and may cause damage to structures along the shoreline. In addition, significant beach erosion may occur.

Preparing - A Lakeshore Flood Warning means that flooding is occurring or imminent along the lake. Residents on or near the shore in the warned area should be alert for rising water...and take appropriate action to protect life and property. Visit www.weather.gov/safety for more.
