2018's Most Fun Cities In America

Whether you're looking for parks and playgrounds or dance clubs and bars, this new report has you covered.

MICHIGAN — Whether a long weekend in the fall or the much-needed midwinter break, there’s a new list out you’ll want to see before you plan your next getaway. WalletHub has announced 2018’s Most Fun Cities in the United States.

According to WalletHub, average American spending nearly $3,000 on entertainment each year. To help Americans find the cities with the greatest number and variety of cheap, fun activities, they compared more than 180 U.S. cities across 65 key metrics, ranging from fitness clubs per capita to movie costs to average open hours of breweries.

Here are the cities that made their Top 20:

  2. Orlando, FL
  3. New York, NY
  4. Atlanta, GA
  5. Miami, FL
  6. Chicago, IL
  7. Portland, OR
  8. San Francisco, CA
  9. New Orleans, LA
  10. San Diego, CA
  11. Denver, CO
  12. Honolulu, HI
  13. Los Angeles, CA
  14. Austin, TX
  15. Washington, DC
  16. Seattle, WA
  17. Philadelphia, PA
  18. Houston, TX
  19. St. Louis, MO
  20. Tampa, FL

Michigan also made the list and fared somewhere in the middle. Detroit was ranked No. 64 and Grand Rapids was ranked No. 72 in the roundup of 180 cities.

Among the best findings was that New York has the most restaurants, playgrounds and bars per square root of population than any other city. San Francisco is where you’ll find the most dance clubs.

If festivals are your thing, you’ll want to look into Honolulu and New Orleans. Miami and Orlando claim top spots for restaurants, if you’re a foodie. If green space is what you’re after, try Chesapeake, Virginia.

The report also calls out cities that offer the least amount of fun, like in Peoria, Ariz. where you’ll find the fewest amount of bars for the population, or in Plano, Texas, where there’s few clubs to dance the night away in.
