Lot Near Detroit Train Station For Sale For $2 Million

DETROIT, MI — Here comes the boom. Just a day after Ford announced buying the infamous and abandoned Michigan Central Station from the Moroun family, a plot of land right outside the site has gone up for sale with a hefty price tag.

According to realtor.com, an 8,712-square-foot vacant lot across the street from the train station is up for sale for $2 million. It’s listed by Dominick Procopio with Re/Max.

"Rare Opportunity — Attention Investors/Developers this is the closest parcel to the Central Train Depot in Corktown. Be a part of Detroit & Michigan Avenue Development with 8,500-plus square feet on a commercial corner lot," the listing reads.

The property surrounding the train station is largely owned by the city of Detroit, some by private companies, a handful by railroad companies and two plots of land by the Moroun family, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Ford made its first move into the Corktown by restoring an old pantyhouse factory there for more than 200 members of it's self-driving and electric vehicle team, "Team Edison." News broke in March that Ford could possibly buy the long-vacant station, which hasn't been running since 1988.

So far what we know is that Ford plans to adorn the building with the blue oval brand. More news is expected to be announced at a public event June 19.
