Michigan Lake Towns Best In Nation: Thrillist
Michigan is getting a lot of love for its summer time vacation spots.

SAUGATUCK, MI — Michigan is getting a lot of love for its summertime traditions and festivities. Just off the heels of Trip Advisor naming Mackinac Island as the best summertime vacation spot, Thrillist has brought more attention to the mitten with its roundup of best lake towns to visit this summer. Two Michigan cities made that list: Saugatuck and Douglas, twin cities on the west side of the state, three hours from Detroit and just 45 minutes from Grand Rapids
Here’s what Thrillist had to say:
"After you hit the shore and soak up some sun on the renowned Oval Beach, hike through Mount Baldhead Park or maybe do a little charter fishing on Lake Michigan. Once you're ready to sit back and relax after a day of, y’know, relaxing, stop in for a beer at Sand Bar, or some choice eats at Bowdies Chop House."

In addition to being a lakeside refuge, the two cities were touted for being gay-friendly.
“They’re also an especially gay-friendly destination; dubbed the Fire Island of the Midwest, the towns boast a whopping 140 businesses that are LGBTQ-owned or support and welcome that community; and one of the country’s top LGBTQ resorts at The Dunes Resort”
