Top Children’s Hospitals In Michigan: U.S. News & World Report
See which hospitals in Michigan are the best for children, according to U.S. News & World Report's latest rankings.
MICHIGAN — Three children’s hospitals in Michigan are among the best in the country, according to U.S. News & World Report’s annual rankings.
The best children’s hospitals for 2019-20 rankings released on Tuesday feature the 50 best hospitals in 10 pediatric specialties and 10 hospitals that landed on U.S. News’ honor roll. The hospitals on the honor roll “deliver exceptionally high-quality care across multiple specialties.”
In Michigan, three hospitals were ranked among the top in pediatric specialties: C.S. Mott Children's Hospital-Michigan Medicine, then Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit and Spectrum Health Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids.

C.S. Mott Children's Hospital-Michigan Medicine took the highest rankings for each specialty, over the other two noted Michigan hospitals. It ranked the top in the state for the following pediatric specialties:
- Cancer
- Cardiology & Heart Surgery
- Diabetes & Endocrinology
- Gastroenterology & Gastrointestinal Surgery
- Neonatology
- Nephrology
- Neurology & Neurosurgery
- Orthopedics
- Pulmonology & Lung Surgery
- Urology
“While health care is rapidly changing, the objective of U.S. News’ Best Children’s Hospitals remains the same: provide families with a comprehensive and trusted starting point as they, in consultation with their doctors and other medical professionals, search for the pediatric care they need,” Ben Harder, Chief of Health Analysis and Managing Editor at U.S. News, said in a news release. “Our rankings, now in their 13th year, have always put parents and young patients at the front and center of our mission.”

The 10 hospitals that made U.S. News’ honor roll are:
- Boston Children’s Hospital (1)
- Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (2)
- Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (3)
- Texas Children’s Hospital (3)
- Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (5)
- Children’s National Medical Center (6)
- Nationwide Children’s Hospital (7)
- UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (8)
- Johns Hopkins Children’s Center (9)
- Seattle Children’s Hospital (10)
U.S. News says its methodology in tabulating the rankings takes into account measures like patient outcome, including mortality and infection rates, and also available clinical resources and compliance with best practices. (You can read more about the methodology here.)
