Winter Break Fun: Kids' Activities This Week At The DIA

Check out these crafty and art-inspired events for kids to help break up that cabin fever during winter break.

DETROIT, MI — Metro Detroit families can banish winter break boredom throughout the next week at the Detroit Institute of Arts with adventures and games designed for children and families. From Dec. 26 to Jan. 4 (excluding New Year’s Day), the DIA will feature the free event Holiday Break Family Fun! Gallery Adventures and Games.

“The DIA provides one-of-a-kind access to history and cultures your child cannot experience in a book, on TV or online,” said Salvador Salort-Pons, DIA director. “By visiting the DIA, children have a unique opportunity to build connections and learn from a diverse array of people, ideas, civilizations and cultures.”

Gallery teachers will provide free pop-up tours and engagement activities for children and families from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 26 to Jan. 4. The DIA has one of the largest and most significant art collections in the United States and each adventure will focus on a different gallery.

· Thursday, Dec. 27 – Contemporary gallery
· Friday, Dec. 28 – Dutch gallery
