2015 Fenton ArtWalk Artist Nancy Pennell to Appear at Kimberly Kay July 11

Be Closer to Arts & Culture in Downtown Fenton Saturday July 11

Residence: Durand, MI

Type of art: Monotype, Intaglio Printmaking

How did you get started as an artist?: I began painting and drawing very young because my father was an artist. I painted throughout school, but concentrated on my work more during my late college years at MSU where I earned my BFA. That is also where I began printmaking and found I liked that as well as painting.

Describe your art: Although I have painted all subject matter, my prints are usually landscaped based. More than just a literal description of a place, I enjoy capturing the feeling and mood of my surroundings. I use many layers of transparent ink to achieve my own lyrical impression of what I have seen. Since a monotype is only one impression, they are more like a painting only produced with a printing press.

What is your next project?: I am beginning to bring more unique stenciling techniques into my work and also combining them with copper intaglio plates.

Where can your art be found?: The Blue Heron Gallery in Elk Rapids Michigan. I show with The Flint Artist Market at most of the Galleries in Flint including GFAC, Buckham Gallery, Fandangles in Flushing, and Shiawassee Arts council in Owosso, Guenter Beholz Jewelers, on North Leroy Street in Fenton

What inspires you?: Nature, wonderful skies and most landscapes throughout the country

Do you belong to any art organizations? Flint Artist Market, Buckham Gallery, and The Blue Heron Gallery
