2015 Fenton ArtWalk Author Phil Hardy to Appear at Fenton's Open Book July 11
Be Closer to Arts & Culture in Downtown Fenton Saturday July 11
Residence: I grew up on Flint’s west side and graduated from Carman High School before joining the United States Army. I served 13 years including 4 years of active duty and 9 years as a reserve drill sergeant.
How did you get started as an Author?: I started writing a few stories as a child but I really didn’t start writing until I was in the Army. While on active duty I wrote home and tried to paint a picture in the mind of my friends and family so that they could see what I was seeing. But what started me as an author was boredom. Seriously! I worked third shift and was allowed to read but when I was unable to find a book to read one night I decided to write a short story for myself. A couple of co-workers coaxed me into allowing them to read the first chapter of “Lone Oak”. Both asked me if I was going to finish the story and encouraged me to continue. Now, years later, “Lone Oak” is in print and there is a contract in place for the next 2 books.
Describe your work: I write in multiple genres but my most common genre is westerns written in the tradition of Louis L’Amour.

What inspires you?: I am inspired by my family and the readers who enjoyed my work. I am also inspired by the desire to share stories that have a positive Christian influence without being preachy.
