Fenton Toastmasters Honor Veterans
Area Vets Invited to Share the Positive Side of Service

Monday, November 11, is Veterans Day. On June 1, 1954, President Eisenhower signed legislation that changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Unlike Memorial Day, which honors those who gave their lives in service for our country, Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace and to thank them for sacrifices.
This Friday, November 8, Fenton Area Toastmasters is offering area veterans an opportunity to share what they gained from their service. Toastmasters meetings around the world have the same general format. The meeting is divided into three sections. The first part is prepared speeches by members. Wes Whittaker, a Vietnam-era veteran who served in the Air Force will be speaking about the moment he realized what honor really meant. The second part of the meeting is where we practice our impromptu or extemporaneous speaking skills. The third part of the meeting is the evaluation portion of the meeting where we learn what we did well and where we need to grow.
The second part of the meeting is called “Table Topics.” It is normally a time when members and guests are given an opportunity to give a 1 to 2-minute impromptu speech in response to a question related to the meeting’s theme. For this meeting, we would like to hear from area veterans on the positive lessons they learned from their service experience. We hope you will come and join us for this special themed meeting.
